Pain Reduction Taping for Horses with Soft Tissue Injuries

Pain Reduction Taping for Horses with Soft Tissue Injuries

Horses just like humans can experience soft tissue pain.

If your horse is experiencing pain due to a soft tissue injury it is first necessary to do a thorough physical examination to determine the cause and location of the pain.

Prior to applying the tape rule out any contraindications.(see our website for a list of contraindications)

TMJ

* Cut 1 long I-strip and 2 pieces of X-strip

* Size: 2-inch width to the
desired length

* Tension: 50% in the middle
of the X-strip 10% otherwise

* Application: Apply the
I-strip starting above
the TMJ and running
along the mandible.

* Apply the X-strip
over the TMJ
In our example we will feature Temporo mandibular joint pain.

Physically examine both right and left temporomandibular joints.

Examination may reveal tightness and dysfunction around one or both of the temporo -mandibular joints.

It is advisable to gently massage and mobilize the joint.

Clean and dry the area.

Then apply a long 5cm I strip starting at the top of the joint and running the tape along the crest of the mandible and ending at the left joint.

For added support place an X tape directly over the left and right joints.(See photo)

Observe the horse for 24 hours.

If the pain persists consult your Veterinarian.
Our TTB tapes are specifically engineered for use in horses and non furry animals.  Part of the proceeds from the sale of our tapes will be donated to Vets Without Borders.
